More Than Just Running

At My Running Concierge, the majority of our focus with clients is on running. Makes sense right? After all, our name is My RUNNING Concierge. The majority of folks who come to MRC have a specific running goal, or have an interest in becoming more active through running, but we do more than just running.

All training plans are customized for each individual person, but almost everyone has some sort of cross training workouts on a weekly or bi-monthly basis. Typically, clients pick their own cross training activities depending on interests or access or availability. We have one client who participates in a weekly kickboxing class. Another MRC client has been swimming three to four days a week at a local community pool while we have a couple clients who bike once or twice a week for 30 minutes.

Cross training is an important part of any training plan whether you're training for a 5K, a marathon, or just running for overall health. For example, swimming is a tremendous activity to boost your cardiovascular health, with no stress on the joints. Plus in the Summer, what's better than going for a swim when it's 85 degrees out in a local pool or lake? Can't beat it!

What's your favorite cross training activity? For me it's swimming. I belong to the local YMCA and I try to get into the pool once, or sometimes twice a week. I started swimming years ago when I had back pain and I was just getting into a running routine, and I decided to add in swimming specifically as a stress-free activity and I haven't looked back! During 2020 and 2021 I started hiking a lot more as well, even completing a couple of the high peaks in the Adirondack Mountains.

At MRC, cross training is important for all of our goals and we work together to incorporate them into your plan. Working with MRC does not mean giving up your favorite activities, in fact it's the opposite, we encourage it!
